The life of Senator John McCain has a roller coaster feel to it. He’s known as the maverick and straight shooter, but also as a strong competitor. My grandfather taught me to see the good in everyone before you see the bad. Our society sadly is at the fighting stage of life and has forgotten the value of this. America needed a leader to say to both sides, STOP FIGHTING. Leadership is not in what you say or do, but how you perform to your full potential of talents. Senator McCain had talent which was his natural ability to lead. Many chose to throw rocks, but he kept walking and leading America. When it came to the defense of America, Senator McCain was our leader who led Congress in passing legislative bills that strengthened our military, here and overseas.
I can remember, being a young sailor stationed overseas in Japan, aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, in VFA 192 Golden Dragons. There was a ship that was a part of our battle group. It was the USS John S McCain. I began to study Senator McCain, the Arizona Senator, and I would watch him on CSPAN all the time. Truth is he was one of my favorites, because I knew he was going to bring it and bring it he did. I remember, reading about Senator McCain’s father and grandfather. Both were retired admirals, which I found incredible. Senator McCain was a Naval Academy graduate, and I was very impressed as I continued to study the McCain military leaders. I was very inspired and I wanted to be a long lifer in the United States Navy, but cancer gave me other plans. I still followed Senator McCain, and in 2005, I decided I wanted to relocate from Miami Fl., to Phoenix, AZ and I did.
“…he served with a smile and he never backed down, even with our current President Trump.“
As I became a moderate Republican, I was shocked by the disdain many of my republicans friends had for Senator McCain. But still he served with a smile and he never backed down, even with our current President Trump. I love both men, but I love the strong competitors they were. Competition always brings out the greatness in you, but leadership brings out the HERO Senator John McCain was to America. We have had great leaders in America from Ronald Reagan, Dr. Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, and George Washington. Senator John McCain was a leader who represented the State of Arizona very well. May the sailors of the USS John S. McCain continue to sail the seas of the world because Greatness is looking down. He’s the “Maverick”, RIP Senator John McCain.
THANK YOU SIR!
