As I was walking down the road at the end of 2016, I reflected on my life’s journey – of the ups and downs as this year comes to an end. What started off as hopeful became dark and gloomy. How do you handle the challenges of your life? For me, I was battling an unknown sickness that my VA Doctors could not figure out. What was going on me with me? After many visits to the ER, blood work, X-Rays, 2 biopsies, I had lost 20 lbs. and I had a severe skin itching sensations all over my body. What they originally thought was a 3rd recurrence of lymphoma, turned out to be Mononucleosis. God has a plan, stay patient in your walk with Christ.
During this period of time, I was batting the VA Administration over my VA Claims, (issues which are still unresolved to this day). All I had at that point in my life was my faith to hold me up and the strength of knowing that God has a plan for my life. At times, I wanted to give up, but I held strong. I was determined to stay strong, not just for myself, but for my kids. It was all about family and making sure I kept our circle intact.
I know a lot of young people across our nation are battling with issues too difficult to bear and it makes them want to give up or keeps them on the brink of giving up. Hold tight to God. He has a plan that is worth fighting for and definitely worth waiting for. Walking by Faith is like having your best friend walk by your side through the ups and downs.
When you have faith, you have God standing right by your side, cheering you on.
When I was struggling, I made the decision to place positive thoughts in my mind. I prayed to God and I made sure I was positive about my outcome. As Peter walked on the water, Jesus told Peter, do not look down, focus on me and walk to me. You can turn a negative into a positive and that will deliver you a winning score. It’s called positive thinking and giving yourself hope, begins with directing the thinking in your mind. When I feel doubt, I begin to correct my thinking of thoughts and fill up my spirit with positive thoughts that get rid of the negative thoughts.
As 2016 comes to a close, reflect on what will help you to grow and begin 2017 in a positive starting position. Even after overcoming my health challenges of 2016 and issues with the VA, Walking by Faith will continue to lead me, not by sight or mind, but by my heart staying connected to God. I put my faith in his hands. I know in the end, I win because I choose to be a Christ Follower!
